FUNDRAISING

The main event of the fund raising year is The British Gaming Golf Championship, which is held at Wentworth Club, Surrey on the day after the August Bank Holiday.

2009 will see the 8th year of this tournament and owing to building works at Wentworth it will be played at the ‘London Golf Club’ near Brands Hatch. This will provide new challenges for our players, with them visiting various parts of Kent instead of Surrey in search of their lost shots!!

Our supporters from the Industry are loyal and we welcome them every year and thank them for their continued fundraising. Again we will present not two but three deserving youngsters with their shiny new wheelchairs at this year’s event, a really tangible way for our players to see where their efforts have gone.

2010 will see the tournament back at it’s natural home of Wentworth Club. This tournament alone, has raised over £250,000 in it’s 8 years and has provided 62 powered wheelchairs.

One of our committee and his family who had a special anniversary/birthday asked their guests not to give them gifts but to donate to CHIPS and that generosity raised enough to help buy a powered wheelchair for Tom from Surrey.

The amusement side of our Industry have also helped, donating funds through their golf days and crazy fundraising events, which have included a sponsored walk organised by Talarius PLC, operators of the UK’s largest group of adult gaming centres and recently Cashino, also operators of adult gaming centres with their staff being sponsored to shave their heads and men waxing their legs!!! Truly amazing people, doing crazy things to support us.

Barcrest, manufacturers of amusement machines have one very special guy, Robert White, who ran the London Marathon for CHIPS and raised enough funds to buy a powered wheelchair and young Jordan Burns from Wigan was the lucky recipient, happily driving his new chair around his school to show it off.

John Seed from Alfastreet, a company that supplies Electronic equipment to the gaming industry, was definitely without electronics when climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise funds. When all the money has been extricated from his donors there should be enough to buy another powered wheelchair.

In the past we have also had donations from The Rotary Club, who sold supermarket trolley token key-rings and raised enough to buy 2 powered wheelchairs.

The Casino and Gaming Industry in the UK is extremely generous, but more is always needed, as so many youngsters need the help of CHIPS.
